What is TOD?
Transit-Oriented Development ("TOD") is simply a new term used to describe walkable development patterns shaped by and integral to transportation systems. Many historic streetcar suburbs in Indianapolis can be described as transit-oriented, composed of a distinct activity center where people used to board the train, and surrounded by walkable blocks that connect seamlessly into neighborhoods. Fountain Square and Irvington are both examples of places that reflect planning and development geared towards the complete transportation system, and could be described as transit-oriented development.
